Attention all readers! Here is YOUR
page. Step up onto As we all know, the day named for my main man, St. Patrick, is coming up in a week and some odd days. I do realize that most people believe you are supposed to get drunk off your arse to celebrate this, but this is not the case. Let's remember what St. Patrick did. He brought Christianity to Ireland, and caused literacy to be brought back to Britain. Some people say "yeah that's great," but celebrating being Irish is more than eating potatoes, drinking green beer and adding "o" to your last name. More than anything, it's a celebration of an ethnic group who overcame opression from both Great Britain and the United States. Take a look in your history books, or back into your childhood, and look at how many great people were Irish. Oh yes, you can get drunk. Of course you can, but why pick one day out of the year to get totally wasted? That's what New Year's Eve is for. Now a list of Stereotypes that are totally false. 1. Not all Irish eat Corned Beef and Cabbage. My God that is the most disgusting combination of a meal I have ever tasted and heard of. 2. Not all Irish are drunks. Fact is Ireland has the lowest alcohol consumption rate in all of Europe, but I guess "Nazi Beer" just isn't as appealing. 3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Now according to Hollywood, the Irish love to fight, and in some parts of the country it is true, but most Irish are peace loving, unless they are opressed. I don't wish to bore you all with the history of Ireland, and this rant, so I just wish you all a happy and safe St. Patrick's Day. Dustin - Irish man 29 |
